Radiant floor heating installation and repair
Rice Plumbing & Heating installs and services radiant floor heating for new construction, remodels and existing homes. Tell us about the rooms, flooring and current heating system so we can understand the project.
Radiant floor heating installation
- Hydronic radiant heating using a water-based system.
- Electric radiant heating for suitable rooms and retrofit projects.
- System design suited to your home's layout and heating needs.
- Integration with boilers and existing heating systems where compatible.
Flooring choice is part of the discussion. Tile, laminate and hardwood projects need an assessment of the flooring and system together before the installation is planned.
Repair and maintenance
- Diagnosing and correcting cold spots or uneven heating.
- Addressing leaks in hydronic systems.
- Repairing or replacing electric heating mats.
- Routine system maintenance.
For an existing system, tell us which areas are affected and whether the problem has changed over time. If your radiant heating is connected to a boiler, include the equipment details when available.

Plan the floor and heat source together
Radiant heat depends on more than the tubing or heating mat under the floor. The room's heat needs, available floor buildup, insulation and chosen floor covering all influence design. A hydronic project also needs to fit its boiler and circulation system. Tell us whether you are planning new construction, opening a floor during a remodel, or trying to improve an existing room. Include the floor material you intend to use and whether the room has another heat source.
For an existing system, note whether a whole zone is cold or only one area of floor, and whether the change began after flooring, thermostat or boiler work. That pattern helps distinguish controls, circulation and floor-side concerns. A cold spot does not by itself prove that embedded tubing or an electric mat must be replaced. Repair decisions should follow diagnosis and take the finished floor into account.
Questions about radiant floors
Can radiant heat go under wood or carpet?
It can work with several floor coverings, but heat output and floor materials have to be considered together in the design.
Does every cold patch mean the floor must be opened?
No. Controls and the connected heating system should be assessed before assuming the fault is under the floor.
What should I send for a remodel quote?
Share the room dimensions, planned floor covering, construction stage, existing heat source and whether the floor will already be opened.
